STYLISTS from a Chichester hairdressers are heading off to South Africa today to help build a house for a family in crisis.

The team from Creations Hair and Beauty, in Southgate, are volunteering with Coco’s Foundation.

Holly Heath, Claire Eason, Michelle Ede and Carla French are making the 36-hour journey to the Kwa-Zulu Natal region of South Africa to help a family living in desperate conditions.

Their mission follows a successful Creations Hair and Beauty challenge set three years ago, to raise £13,500 to send four of the team, plus three other volunteers, to one of the poorest regions in the world.

Emma Shepherd, business development manager, explained: “The task was to build two houses, support a feeding project for one year at a local school and built an allotment to start a co-operative in the local community.

“That team headed off one year ago and completed their project, along with raising nearly £25,000, going way over their initial target.

“A second group of stylists, inspired by the stories, decided to embark on their own fundraising mission and raised a further £15,000 to help once more.”

This team will be away for 18 days and their journey can be followed via www.creationshairandbeauty.com/africablog

Carolyn Sweeney, owner of Creations Hair and Beauty, said: “I am so proud of my team wanting to take on these challenges.

“The troubles they face when they get to Africa will be on a massive scale. The fact the region has been in drought for nine months is the first hurdle.”
