Chichester will be sparkling over Christmas

Festive shoppers can expect to see a sparkling city centre over the Christmas period.

Last week the new Christmas lights – hired by the city council thanks to a successful community campaign led by the Observer – were installed in the main shopping areas.

And on Tuesday this week the lights were switched on in the early evening as part of a test run ahead of the grand switch-on at 5pm on Saturday, November 26.

Lights have been installed at existing fixing points in North, South, East and West Streets, plus St Martin’s Street and Crane Street.

The lights have been hired from the Gala Lights company, which supplies lights to shopping centres and events across the country.

The attractive displays are made up of LED lights and have been designed to be energy efficient.
