THE development of 11 new houses in a green field site last used for horses has been slammed by a Chidham resident as ‘unsustainable’.
Chidham and Hambrook parish councillor Linda Wilkinson spoke out against the development plans at a Chichester District Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 24.
“The development does not allow for sustainable growth of the infrastructure,” she said.
“We only have a small post office and a shop. This proposal for housing in a green field site is in direct opposition to the village plan.”
Councillors voted to defer the application for a section 106 then permit the development.
Objector Alan Morse told the committee the villagers had identified three brown field sites which could be used instead of the green field site.
“We have no objection for these sites to be developed.”
Cllr Philippa Hardwick said: “I know we are under pressure to provide housing and I feel this area has had too much housing too quickly.”
Two developments totalling 108 houses have been approved in Hambrook in the last two years.
