CHICHESTER’S big Christmas lights switch-on takes place tonight as the city transforms into a winter wonderland.
It all starts with a carol concert on Cathedral Green at 6.30pm.
The city’s lights will then be turned on at 7pm from the cathedral, followed by a grand firework display in West Street.
East and South streets will be closed to traffic from 4pm-8pm and there will be street entertainment throughout the evening.
Father Christmas will also be at the Novium museum, in Tower Street, from 4pm-8pm.
City-centre shops will stay open until 8pm to welcome early Christmas shoppers.
The co-founders of Chilgrove Gin are hosting a mulled wine and gin tasting event at Hennings Wine, in North Street, between 4pm and 8pm in aid of the Sussex Snowdrop Trust.
And for the first time there will be a Chichester treasure hunt, with festive images found on pavements outside 12 locations around the city centre.
It has been organised by Chichester’s business improvement district, with the images created by local company Urban Tags and all entries will automatically go into a prize draw for £200 worth of toys by newly-opened South Street toy shop Whirligig.
Free park and ride is being offered at Chichester College.
Emsworth will turn its lights on tomorrow with the Selsey switch-on happening on Saturday.
