PROVIDING support in the community is a key part of our Best Voluntary/Charity Group category.

The Rotary Club of Bognor Regis was nominated for its fundraising efforts over more than 80 years.

“The Rotary Club of Bognor Regis has, for 85 years, been quietly raising money and then donating it to a wide variety of local organisations, charities and needy individuals, including Sammy Community Transport, the district Scouts, social care volunteer groups and many others,” said nominator Mrs Wheeler.

“When support is needed, Rotary is here.”

Tillington Local Care (TLC) has also been nominated in this year’s awards.

Set up in 2009, it helps people get to the doctor and other medical appointments.

“It is dedicated to helping local people from Tillington and surrounding areas to get to much-needed doctor’s and hospital appointments,” said nominator Michael Wheller.

“TLC consists of a committee of six people and a team of 33 drivers who unite to meet the needs of those requiring help.”

We are still looking for more nominations in the Best Voluntary/Charity Group category.

Anyone who would like to nominate someone they know for a community award can email awards@chiobserver.co.uk.

All nominations should include contact details for the nominee and nominator, which category they are being nominated in and around 50 words on why they have been nominated.

You can also nominate via our Community Awards Facebook page.

Sponsors

This year’s School Star sponsor is the South Downs National Park Authority.

“The authority believes the environment a young person learns in has a significant effect on how they engage with a subject or idea,” said a spokeswoman. “The people who shape that experience will directly influence them as they grow into members of their community and that is why we are proud to sponsor School Star.

“We want to help celebrate the individuals encouraging the next generation to enjoy, appreciate and care for their communities and environment. The National Park is committed to learning in other ways.

“Our South Downs is a ground-breaking project supporting teachers to get more than 500,000 children outside and excited about the wildlife, history, culture and industry on their doorstep.

“Through the Our South Downs Learning Zone teachers can easily find outdoor experiences tailored to the school curriculum.
