A FIRE ripped through a flat above a restaurant in East Wittering in the early hours of this morning (June 5).

Firefighters were called to the scene at 3.23am, to the flat above Indian restaurant Madhu-Ban on New Parade.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the six adults who were in the flat were all accounted for.

The flat was ‘well-alight’ when firefighters arrived, and one 25kg propane gas cylinder in the building was cooled and vented, and three further gas cylinders were removed from the flat.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The damaged area in the flat was damped down and the fire was put out. The restaurant was also checked for damage.

Fire crews from East Wittering and Chichester were at the scene until 5.20am.
