Sussex Police has regained its place among the 100 most gay-friendly employers in the country.
Its return to the 2013 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index - coming 93 out of 376 organisations entered - means Sussex Police has been in the top 100 four years out of five. The force has risen 45 places against its position in 2012.
The index assesses organisational equality practices and how organisations engage with their lesbian, gay and bisexual staff and customers.
PC Peter Boiling, chair of Sussex Police Gay Police Association, said: “Moving back into the top 100 is a step in the right direction and testament to the commitment of Sussex Police and the hard work of the Gay Police Association in supporting our Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual colleagues.”
Supt. Laurence Taylor, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) Equality Champion, said: “This achievement is evidence of the determination within the force to build a positive, inclusive working environment. I hope this message encourages members of lesbian, gay and bisexual communities across Sussex to know we will take them seriously and support them in the event that they need our help.”
