Around one hundred cows were spotted going for a stroll in the road in Chilgrove today (October 6).
James Wright, 22, a farmer at the Sussex Pig Company and a wildlife photographer, spotted two stray cows near the Whitehorse Pub at around 1pm.
But he said it was only a matter of minutes before two, turned to about one hundred.
James stayed with the cows and helped traffic to pass through.
He said: “If they were my pigs or cows I would want someone to do the same for me. Us farmers look out for each other.
“Eventually the farmer showed up so we pushed them up a lane then the cows walked straight through the fence and started eating the hay bales in the field.
“Cows go where they want. That’s why I keep pigs!”
James called the police who helped him and the other farmer to get the cows back into their nearby field at about 3pm.
