Police have found a body at Goodwood in the murder investigation of a 78-year-old woman.
Specialist officers at the scene started the painstaking search yesterday (23 March) at about midday, looking for the body of a woman who had been reported missing by concerned friends on Tuesday.
The body was found in a large area of Pilleygreen Hill, next to Selhurst Park Road this afternoon.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick May, from Sussex Police’s Major Crime Branch, said: “It is too early to say yet whether this is the body of the woman we have been looking for, but early indications are that this is most likely.
“Officers have been working tirelessly at the scene to find the victim, who was reported missing at the beginning of the week. We hope that the discovery this afternoon will help take the investigation further forward.”
A 50-year-old man - the woman’s son - was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of murder; he remains in custody where he will continue to be interviewed by officers.
A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish a cause of death.
Police are appealing for witness who saw anything suspicious at the scene between March 17 and 20 to contact them on 0845 60 70 999.
