Bognor man charged following aggravated burglary at Pagham store

A Bognor Regis man accused of robbing a Pagham shop has been remanded in custody.

Dean Hardman, 32, of Chalcraft Lane, has been charged with burglary other than dwelling, aggravated burglary other than dwelling, possession of an offensive weapon and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

He appeared before Chichester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 30, where he was remanded into custody until April 2012.

At 6.30am on Saturday, January 28, police attended the Co-op convenience store in The Parade following reports of an armed robbery in which several thousand pounds were stolen. Staff, although shaken, were uninjured.

Detective Sergeant Russ Burgess, of West Sussex CID, said: “Three members of staff were in the shop at the time of the incident and they did the right thing in handing over the money.

“We are currently working to locate a second man who we believe was involved in this robbery.”
