Chichester benefit cheat sentenced to community work

A BENEFIT cheat has been given 40 hours of community work after falsely claiming nearly £10,000.

Sabrina Furner, of Dallaway Road, Chichester, was claiming housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support on the basis that she was a lone parent.

However, she failed to declare that her partner moved into the household in April, 2010.

Miss Furner appeared at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on October 9 and pleaded guilty to three charges of failing to declare a change in her circumstances.

She was caught following a joint investigation between Chichester District Council and the Department of Work and Pensions.

The total sum she had been overpaid was £9,728.46, and both departments are looking to recover the money.
