A MAN accused of driving the wrong way up the A27 while trying to flee police appeared in court today (Monday, June 10).

Matthew Hall, 25, from Beach Road, Southsea, in Hampshire, pleaded not guilty to burglary, dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance at Worthing Magistrates’ Court.

Just after 8pm, car keys for a VW Passat were stolen from Steyning Sports Centre, in Horsham.

The offenders fled in the car.

It was eventually stopped near Emsworth by Hampshire Police officers, having being driven the wrong way down the A27 from Chichester.

One suspect is still at large and police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the second suspect to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 1434 of 8/6.

Hall will next appear at Chichester Crown Court on Friday, August 30.
