UPDATE: Homes were unlocked in Chichester burglaries

POLICE urge residents to lock their homes after it emerged the three homes which were burgled on Saturday (April 6) were unlocked.

The three incidents which happened between midnight and 6am have been linked because of the close proximity of the properties.

But police have revealed all three properties were insecure, and the burglaries occurred while occupants slept.

“In one third of burglaries, the thief didn’t have to force entry into the home,” a spokeswoman said.

And this was the case on Saturday when three homes within walking distance of each other where broken into.

Properties in Chichester at Stride Close, York Road and Pound Farm Road were entered between midnight and 6am.

The burglars went through the back gardens and entered through the back entrances of the properties which were left insecure.

Items such as a Tag Heuer watch, an iPod, a digital camera, cash, an Ipad and laptops were stolen in the burglaries.

Witnesses and anyone with information should contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting the reference 273 of 6/4.
