POLICE have today (Tuesday, June 11) appealed for witnesses after a young woman was attacked by a man in Chichester.

At about 4am on Sunday, June 9, the 19-year-old woman was walking home along the underpass beneath Via Ravenna.

A man, described as white, with dark hair, grabbed at her.

She shook free and ran off, and the man disappeared in the direction of Chichester College. The woman was badly shaken but unhurt.

Detective Constable Jon Berisford said: “This was a distressing but isolated even, and is not part of any pattern of such offences in the city.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area overnight on Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday and who saw anything suspicious.

“In particular, we also would like to speak to any other women who may have been approached by this man on that night.

“Please call us in confidence on 101 quoting serial 0260 of 9/6. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
