A CHURCH will host its final music concert after low attendance and rising costs.
Paul Devonshire and Adrian Harland have been running Music in the Church in Sidlesham’s parish church since 1996.
The shows were put on every two months, with more than 90 performers over the years.
But Mr Devonshire said they will have to stop, ‘before there is a deficit’.
“It is perhaps a comment on the market for live classical chamber music in the area that, while the cathedral can be packed for its free Tuesday lunchtime concerts, the same performers do not attract a similar audience in an outlying venue where one has to pay,” he said.
The concerts have raised more than £3,000 for St Wilfrid’s Hospice over a number of years.
The last concert will be held in St Mary’s Church this Sunday, at 6.30pm.
It will feature the guitarist, David Jaggs, with a programme including works by Domenico Scarlatti, Villa Lobos and Albeniz.
Tickets cost £9. Contact Adrian Harland on 01243 641698 for details and tickets.
