ONE of Emsworth’s oldest - and some say ugliest - landmarks is about to vanish.

The gas holder, which has dominated the skyline for more than 80 years off Palmers Road, is being demolished over the next few weeks.

Emsworth resident John Tweddell took these photos on the first removal day before any structural work was carried out.

His photos will be displayed in the Emsworth museum.

In October last year residents held a silent disco on the pavement while images of the gas works were beamed on to it along with music by the likes of Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd.
