Detailed plans have been submitted for the five-and-a-half hectare site on land north of Main Road and Loveders Caravan Park.

The development, named ‘The Orchard’, was granted outline planning permission in 2015.

Developer Seaward Properties had originally applied to build more than 200 houses in the village under three separate applications, but withdrew all three plans following objections from residents and Southbourne Parish Council.

The revised designs include 128 houses, 24 apartments and five bungalows, ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses.

Affordable housing will make up 40 per cent of the development, with 31 affordable rented units and another 31 designated as shared ownership homes.

A central green space and a ‘community orchard and composting area’ are some of the softening features included in the plans.

An electricity substation and a pumping station are also visible in drawings along the east of the site, south of Green Orchards.
