A NEW drop-in centre for teenagers will launch today.

The Bell Tower Drop-In, based in the Bell Tower on West Street, will be staffed by trained volunteers from churches in the city of Chichester and the University of Chichester.

It will be open on school days from 2.30pm-6pm to provide a safe place for people aged 11 to 16, to do homework or hang out with friends.

Dave Corcoran, head of student support and wellbeing at the university and a Bell Tower Drop-In trustee, said: “I am overjoyed by the positive impact being made to the lives of young people in our community as a result of the coming together of all those delivering and supporting the service. This is truly partnership at its best.”

Initial funding has come from the Sussex Community Foundation, St John’s Trust, the FG Woodger Trust, West Sussex County Council, churches and individuals.
