A FARM has proved it has the ‘white stuff’ for success after winning a major national award.

John Holt, 56, runs Droke Farm, in the village of East Dean, with his family and, at the end of last month, was delighted to find it had been crowned Farm of the Year by Tesco.

Mr Holt – a third generation farmer and tenant at Goodwood estate – has been supplying Tesco with milk for the past five years.

He and his family farm 1,000 acres, which includes 200 Holstein Friesian milking cows, as well as 400 acres of arable land.

He is a member of the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group which ensures farmers are paid a fair price and works to encourage high animal and environmental welfare.

Mr Holt was praised by judge Matt Dobbs, an independent vet, for his commitment to improving herd longevity, adopting new technology and diversifying by opening his farm to the public, in addition to demonstrating excellent herd health and milk quality.
