THREE volunteers at Chichester Harbour Conservancy received an award for ten years’ dedicated work.

Vivien Harding, 71, from Emsworth, Pat Carroll, 70, from Hunston, and Veronica Ferguson, 77, from Itchenor, were recognised by their colleagues on Tuesday (July 31) in a presentation at Dell Quay.

Over the years they have helped out with numerous school parties which come to the harbour.

Pat said: “One of the main reasons I do it is I have learned a lot and want the children to appreciate this is an area of outstanding natural beauty and we need to protect it.”

Veronica added: “We get children from as far away as London and some of them have never seen the sea before and they really enjoy it.”

Gary James, Education Officer at Chichester Harbour Conservancy, added: “Virtually every day of the week there is something going on and when that’s happening there are volunteers helping. They play such an important role.”
