GROW-your-own enthusiasts in West Ashling have planted some trees to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and also help the environment.
Members of the Newells Landshare scheme in Newells Lane – initiated by Amanda and Richard Brooks – planted the trees as part of the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods campaign.
Mrs Brooks said: “Tree planting is a fantastic and fun way for us to do something lasting in our local area.
“We hope our trees will help attract wildlife and make a real difference to everyone who will see them.
“It’s incredible to think that in just five years, our trees will be as tall as us.
“It was good to see landsharers and locals come and help plant the trees on a dry sunny day.
“Growing our own wood fuel perfectly complements growing our own fruit and veg and meat-rearing which also goes on at Newells Landshare.”
