CHILDREN were showing off their cooking skills and tucking into pancakes with yummy banana ice cream last week as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Pupils at West Wittering Primary School enjoyed the snack thanks to the Chichester branch of Sainsbury’s which donated all the fruit for the workshop. Afterwards, the school was entered into a free prize draw to win a selection of cooking equipment.
Jo Turner and Danny Moore handed out a variety of Fairtrade items to the children including balloons, stickers and leaflets explaining the work of the Fairtrade Foundation and its new Take A Step For Fairtrade campaign. The day was described as a great success.
Manager of the Chichester store Richard Hay said: “Fairtrade Fortnight gives us the opportunity to teach schoolchildren about the importance of Fairtrade, that not only ensures that farmers get a fair price but also a Fairtrade premium for investment in projects.”
