FIRE broke out on farmland in Tangmere yesterday (May 13).

The flames started in a 500-tonne pile of straw and manure, on farmland off Tangmere Road.

Around 150 tonnes of straw and manure was involved in the fire.

Four vehicles from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and made a fire break using machinery that was already on site.

The straw and manure was then allowed to burn out under control by the fire crews.

The spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was accidental.

Fire crews were at the scene from around 12.45pm to 1.30pm.
