Fifty years for Selsey secondary school

IT’S PARTY time at The Academy, in Selsey, as the school celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The school has planned a number of charity events to mark the milestone, as well as a party for former and current staff and students tonight.

This comes just after the school achieved its best exam results yet – a nine per cent increase to 50 per cent in students gaining five or more A*- C grades including English and maths.

Assistant headteacher Tom Garfield said: “Birthdays are always a good time to stop and reflect on your progress.

“Our results are an important milestone in our journey and an indication of our aspirations for the students on the peninsula.

“To break through 50 per cent in our 50th year reflects our constant desire for students to reach their full potential.”

The school’s charity events include a bake sale, readathon and a sponsored fun run for St Wilfred’s Hospice and Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice.
