FILM: Chichester cinema helps take The Secret Policeman's ball to a global audience

Chichester is to join in a global broadcast of Amnesty International's flagship comedy event.

John Cleese will be among the comic legends involved as Amnesty International takes The Secret Policeman's Ball to global audiences on Saturday October 4.

Chichester will join in with cinemas from as far afield as Canada and Australia in a unique cinecast – a simultaneous live screening – of the show.

The Chichester screen is part of the Cineworld network of cinemas, 16 of whom will be showing the event live on the night. A further 22 screens across the United Kingdom, 56 in Canada and four in Australia will also take part.

Andy Hackman, Amnesty International UK's head of brand and events, said:

"Amnesty is all about bringing people together to make a difference, and the Secret Policeman's Ball has always been able to do that. It's fantastic that these innovative cinecasts will be taking the 2008 Ball to such a massive worldwide audience.

"John Cleese compered the first Secret Policeman's Ball in 1976. The success of that show spawned nine more over the next 20 years, but this year's ball, which will also be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, will be the first John Cleese has been involved in for almost 20 years.

"He will be fronting a special promotional advert for the show ahead of its screening on Channel 4 on Sunday October 5."

Doors open in Chichester at 6.30 for a 7pm start. Tickets are priced at 14 for Amnesty International and Cineworld members; 14.50 for concessions and students and 17.50 for adults.
