The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge today took their new baby daughter home from hospital

William and Kate left the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London, with William carrying the new princess to their car.

Kate cradled her daughter in her right arm and the baby, wrapped in shawl and wearing a bonnet, appeared fast asleep.

Earlier, Prince William took the couple’s 21-month-old son Prince George to meet his new sister, who was born this morning.

Taking the toddler home ahead of returning to collect his new daughter, Prince William has emerged from the Lindo Wing to cheers from waiting well-wishers and a barrage of questions from reporters. He told them he was “very happy” before driving off in a Range Rover.

The Cambridges will stay for a few days at Kensington Palace before decamping to their new country bolthole, Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
