GENEROUS fund raisers were thanked for helping create new and improved Girl Guiding facilities at an official opening ceremony this afternoon (January 24).

A new committee room and toilet facilities at the Guides hall in Whyke Lane, were officially opened by the Mayor of Chichester John Hughes.

Many parents, councillors and community groups who have helped raise £50,000 for the facilities, were invited to the ceremony today and thanked with tea, coffee and cakes.

Suzie Hellyer, Girl Guiding district commissioner, said the fund raising efforts began in 2012 after an idea to build another toilet room for men, snowballed into a hefty construction project.

“We want to thank everyone that’s given. We have received some big grants.

“It’s brightened up the hall and it’s a great addition for us to have, especially when the Guides sleep over in here and we have a separate room for the leader or for the first aid equipment.”

The Guides hosted a number of fund raising events including a Christmas Fair which raised about £1,000 in one afternoon.
