Thousands flocked to Goodwood today (Friday 14) to soak up the atmosphere of the world’s most popular historic motor race meeting.
The event was brought alive by a stunning mix of classic cars, amazing aviation, inventive period dress and a wealth of live entertainment.
The Silver Arrows took to the circuit and people watched from their deck chairs as spitfires and hurricanes filled the skies with a show-stopping air display.
There is no shortage of things to see and do - the Revival high street even has its own period-style Tesco enhanced by an incredible range of products in their original packaging, and a hairdressers on site so women can get the perfect victory rolls.
The Goodwood team have put on an inventive display of period enactments including the home guard, air hostesses and land girls, and a bobby was patrolling the site on his bicycle.
Genuine ice cream vans and police cars from the 1950’s help to achieve an entirely authentic feel, and even the ambulances and fire trucks were adhering to the rules.
As for the cars, Maserati, Ford, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes are among those displaying new models alongside those from their heritage collections.
On Ladies’ Day (Saturday, September 15) there will be special prizes for the best dressed women, but best dressed prizes for all will continue.
Tomorrow, cars will race for a number of trophies including the Goodwood Trophy and the Chichester Cup, so don’t miss the excitement as the engines start and the flags come down.
