EXTRA GP surgeries opened at the weekend and took a further 360 appointments in a bid to ease the pressure on accident and emergency departments.

This comes after St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester, and Worthing Hospital were put on ‘black alert’ – meaning bed capacity has been reached.

Western Sussex Hospitals Trust and Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group organised for the extra surgeries to open.

Residents can find their nearest open GP surgery by calling the NHS non-emergency helpline on 111.
