IT HAS been a long wait for some residents of Bosham but finally work to improve the facilities at Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church can now go ahead.

A turf-cutting ceremony was held on November 21 to officially launch the work to build three unisex toilets and a disabled toilet, as well as a kitchen. They will be built as an outbuilding to the church.

The work is able to go ahead after three years of fundraising – but there is still £50,000 to go.

Resident Brian Howe, who was at the ceremony, said: “It is dreadfully important to enable the ageing population access to the toilets.”

Mr Howe said a petition calling for the new facilities at the church attracted around 100 signatures.

Father Kieron O’Brien said the works are getting under way after a long wait.

He added: “We hope these facilities will greatly enhance the church’s accessibility for residents.”
