Join us in celebrating everything our independent shops have to offer – a showcase of Chichester’s independent stores which epitomise the uniqueness our city is famous for.

Today (Thursday, July 4) is Independents’ Day, a national campaign which aims to give a voice to the UK’s independent retailers. Organised by the National Skills Academy for Retail and now in its third year, the campaign has been declared a nationwide day for the public to shop at independent retailers and celebrate diversity on the high street.

There are so many beautiful boutiques that are waiting to be found.

The range of independent shops on offer is impressive. For ladies’ wear Lili Boutique, Strawberry, Saffron, Indigo, Little London Boutique, Mousetrap, Pushka and Lady Jane Dress Agency, among many others, offer one-off gowns for that special – and not so special – occasion.

Dartagnan, Andrew McDowell, LJ for Jeans and Stephen Lawrence offer high-quality fashion for the discerning man.

Children are catered for with The Sweet Jar, Boogaloo Shoes, Kids Love Toys and Baby Talk. For bespoke and high-quality jewellery the city hosts many independent jewellers.

Pressleys are to be found within the beautifully-restored Butter Market in North Street.

With independent book shops (Kim’s Books), specialist chocolatiers (Montezumas) and specialists in gifts and accessories (The Bazaar, Little Shop of Secrets, Tiempo, Clothkits and The Carousel) you will be sure to find that something a bit different.

Countryside Interiors, Casa Fina, Bloomingvilles, No 43 and Thru the Looking Glass offer a wide range of unique and bespoke furniture whilst antique shops in West Street offer something old for all tastes.

If you are looking to be pampered then look no further, with a host of independent hairdressers offer a service that will leave you feeling a million dollars.

For lunch you can choose from an impressive variety of independent sandwich, tea and coffee shops throughout the city to sort all tastes from quirky tea rooms to restaurants.

There are several independent public houses offering high-quality menus with gardens in which you can relax and beautiful side streets full of different shops and found the beauty of Chichester.
