A fantastic evening saw the champions of our communities recognised at the Observer Community Awards.

Hosted again by TV favourite Fred Dinenage and held at Butlin’s in Bognor Regis, as always there were some truly inspirational individual stories as well as many groups and charities rewarded for their outstanding work this year.

Among tonight’s winners were the Friend of Chichester Hospitals, who scooped the Best Voluntary/Charity Group award for their continued fundraising and support for St Richard’s Hospital.

The Academy Selsey won the award for Best School after recovering so brilliantly from a devastating fire earlier this year.

Two amazing young men were also recognised - Tyler Murphy of Tyler’s Trust won the Bravery Award, while Daniel Strang from Selsey was one of two Observer Awards for Special Achievement, along with Rich Sherwell of Give4Beth.

Individual awards were sponsored by various companies while Rolls-Royce Motor Cars were again the headline sponsor for the awards, with Andrew Ball handing out the final two awards.

Host Fred Dinenage said: “What a fabulous evening we have had, congratulations again to the thoroughly deserving winners and to everyone who was nominated this year.”
