HIKERS and bikers turned out in force to raise money for Sussex hospices.
After a 43-mile hike from Lewes to Goodwood, with a number of five-mile sections for less-seasoned hikers, they finished in triumph at Goodwood Racecourse last weekend (Sunday, August 19).
The annual event has been going since 2007, and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for four hospices across Sussex, including St Wilfrid’s in Chichester.
The course started on Saturday morning and went through to the Sunday afternoon in the scorching summer heat.
Mike Harvey, one of the organisers, said: “The four hospices in Sussex do amazing work.
“The government only gives them a small amount of funds, and therefore the care of the terminally ill is left to fundraisers like ourselves.”
