Homes evacuated after bomb found

Two households were evacuated after contractors working on a house in Grove Road uncovered a bomb from the second world war this afternoon (Tuesday, March 15).

Sussex Police were alerted at around 4pm and homes immediately near the property were evacuated for safety following the find.

A military bomb disposal team from Portsmouth was called to the scene and arrived at around 5.30pm.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the bomb disposal team declared the scene safe by 6.30pm, with people allowed back into their homes.
