A FULL grid of 33 American Indy 500 cars will be the highlight of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It will stage a major celebration of the first 100 years of USA’s Indianapolis 500 which will include some of the sport’s most famous drivers who will be reunited with significant cars from their careers.

Lord March laid the first, genuine 100-year-old brick from the Indianapolis track, one of a yard of Indy bricks which have been especially shipped over to be installed at the start line of the festival’s hillclimb.

On-track, the cars will be accompanied by an authentic American marching band.

Lord March said: “I am delighted we are able to honour this momentous anniversary.

“American motor sport has always been an important element of the Festival of Speed, and there is no bigger event in the American sporting calendar than the Indianapolis 500.

“To be able to honour the centenary in such a major way is a huge honour for Goodwood.”
