The man and woman from Worthing have been released on bail until September 5

POLICE are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a man being attacked in Emsworth.

A large group of youths were causing problems for traffic in Havant Road and Bridge Road in the town at around 8.30pm on Saturday, July 19.

A 41-year-old local man asked them to calm down and was then attacked by three or four men. He was beaten to the ground and was left with cuts and grazes to his head, legs and arms.

Police were called to the scene and a 19-year-old Fareham man was arrested a short time later.

The attackers are described as white and aged around 20.

Detective Constable Shelia Mason said: “Something like this is very rare in Emsworth and we are sure local people will be keen to help us find those responsible. If anyone did see what happened then please get in contact me At Waterlooville CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The arrested man has been released pending further enquiries until September 3.
