VETERANS will once again visit Chichester later this month.
For more than a decade, in the second week of May, an annual reunion of the Italy Star Association 1943-45 has been held in the city.
Members of the association are the veterans of some of the most lengthy battles of the second world war’s Italian campaign.
This year’s reunion is on Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12.
Saturday will see members attend an annual general meeting before catching up with friends.
Sunday will start with a reception at Council House, in North Street.
The reception will be followed by a service of remembrance and dedication at Chichester Cathedral, led by the Dean of Chichester, the Very Rev. Nicholas Frayling, for members and invited guests.
After the service, there will be a parade through the city. Members will march behind a pipe and drum band, saluting military officers and dignitaries outside the council house.
Following the parade, all members will return to the South Downs Holiday Village for a gala dinner and speeches with guests including Sir Michael Howard OM MC and president of the New Zealand branch, Gary Russell.
This year will be particularly poignant for members as it is the 70th anniversary of allied forces landing back in Europe.
