TELEVISION detective Kevin Whately has showed his support for charity fundraising at Christmas.

The star of ITV’s Lewis visited Cards for Good Causes last Friday (November 7).

The actor, who is starring alongside Imelda Staunton in Gypsy at the Festival Theatre, lent his support to the charities selling cards in Chichester.

“They’re all wonderful charities” he said. “I do work for one or two of the charities involved so it’s good to help publicise the fact that it’s here.”

For Mr Whately, who also does work for the Alzheimer’s Society, lending support to such organisations is part of his job.

“If you’re in the public eye, you are asked to help with publicising charities.

“This is only here for a couple of months and people might not be used to coming in, so it’s about raising awareness.”

The shop, now in its seventh year in the Council House, in North Street, sells cards from 46 charities.

Seventy pence from each pound goes to the charity selling the cards.

Judith O’Sullivan, regional organiser for the Chichester shop, said this year was going well.

“The fact that Kevin is willing to come down and support us is testament to everything we do.”

Visit from 9.30am-4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
