Lifeboat crews from Littlehampton and Selsey RNLI stations worked together to save five people drifting without power off Selsey coast.

Following a call from the coastguard, Littlehampton RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat launched at 6.59am on Tuesday 19 July to assist Selsey RNLI in the rescue of a small leisure boat which had run out of fuel.

The boat was drifting without power five miles off the Selsey coast.

The Selsey lifeboat had been launched earlier and taken the boat in tow. The tow line was transferred to Littlehampton’s lifeboat when they arrived on the scene and the casualty and four adults were taken back to Town Quay within Littlehampton harbour.

The lifeboat returned to the station at 8.17am where it was refuelled and made ready for service.

An RNLI spokesman said “If you are planning a visit to the coast to go sailing, please remember to respect the sea at all times and that you have all the relevant sailing equipment and fuel to ensure your own personal safety.”
