98 jobs from £30m development

A £30m flagship specialist nursing and care home development could create up to 100 new jobs in south Chailey.

Retirement Villages Ltd have submitted plans for outline consent for a purpose-built retirement village of 74 extra-care flats and 85 nursing and dementia care units.

Brighton architects LCE have designed a state-of-the-art scheme for the new complex which will boast some of the most advanced facilities in Europe.

With multi-level floors and expanses of solar glazing, Gradwell Park will incorporate key renewable energy assets and ecological benefits.

If the plans get the go-ahead, developers say Gradwell Park will extend facilities open to the wider community and boost business for existing retail outlets in the area.

The centre's hall, pool, physiotherapy, other treatment facilities and bowling green will be made available for use by local people.

The developers also envisage the creation of up to 98 new jobs within the first three years.

Jon Gooding, chief executive for the developer Retirement Villages Ltd, said: "We are extremely excited by the application."
