A MASCOT has inspected work at a new £1.9million teaching block.

Barney, the mascot for Fareham-based company Amiri Construction, joined managing director Grahame Pettit on a site visit to the block at Chichester College’s Binsbury Campus.

The project was of particular relevance to Barney, a 14-year-old golden retriever, as the two-storey teaching block will provide modern facilities for a range of courses including animal care, dog grooming and floristry.

Designed by Bath based architects Stride Treglown Tektus, the block will accommodate operating theatres, care areas for pets, a grooming parlour, a shop and reception area.

“We felt that Barney deserved to see the building as it is now taking shape,” said Grahame.

“The training provided in the modern block will benefit generations of dogs and other domestic pets to come.

“We expect to hand over the new facilities in July.”

Amri Construction, founded seven years ago, recently celebrated a cumulative turnover of £100million after working on 100 projects, including their largest to date – a £6.4million distribution centre near Chichester.
