POLICE are seeking a man who is suspected of attempting to steal from an Emsworth resident in her own home.

At about 9.30am on Monday (January 27), the man, described as in his thirties, white, 6 foot, thick set, with a shaved head, and wearing dirty working clothes, called at the address in Main Road, Emsworth.

He claimed to be working next door and needed access to the garden. However the resident was suspicious as she knew there was no work going on next door, and after briefly letting him in she swiftly escorted him out. Nothing was stolen.

Local officer Jason Lemm said: “This resident did the right thing by being suspicious of a cold caller and not allowing him anywhere unescorted. Our advice is always, if in doubt keep them out and call us on 101, or 999 if they are still present.”

Anyone who saw this man in the Emsworth area on Monday is asked to contact police via 101 with the reference 0347 of 27/1.

You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
