Charity turns old cars from scrap into cash

A CHARITY scheme to turn old cars into cash has been given a boost by its founder’s parents.

Tom Chance was inspired to kick off Giveacar, an award-winning donation scheme which has already generated over £500,000 for 500 charities, after a job buying and selling scrap cars whilst at university.

Now his ethical, hassle-free method of vehicle disposal – which sees people wanting to get rid of their old cars transform them into cash for their favourite charity – has had extra support from Tom’s parents.

Sarah and Alan Chance, who own Grange Farm Shop in Funtington, donated their farm van to their son’s scheme to raise money for Chichester-based charity Children on the Edge.

Sarah said: “So many people are truly delighted to donate their cars, especially following a death in the family.”

The £100 scrappage price it can make a big difference to small charities like Children on the Edge where £100 can provide a hot lunch for 200 working children in Bangladesh for an entire week.
