Chichester building given new look
It is one of Chichester's most illustrious addresses, and this month residents at Forbes Place in King George Gardens have been celebrating the completion of major restoration work.
The Grade II listed building, which is the former King George Hospital, is famous for having the longest wisteria plant in the country at 200 yards, which is also the only known shrub protected by a preservation order.
Residents queued all night in 1998 when the 12 luxury apartments were put on sale following refurbishment of the building.
For the past three years major work has taken place on the outside of the building to repair damaged render.
The painstaking work included pulling the wisteria plant back and pinning it onto scaffolding under the watchful eye of an arborist.
The scaffolding has now been removed to reveal the building in all its former glory and this month residents got together to celebrate with a drinks reception and invited several estate agents from Chichester.
Resident Jack Howard, chairman of Forbes Place Management Committee, spearheaded the campaign to get the restoration work done, and said everyone was very pleased.
"It's a very important building in Chichester and for the past three years people must have been going past thinking 'what on earth is happening to that building?'
