SCHOOLGIRL Holly Bullen, 10, raised £102 for charity after a two-day sponsored silence.

She decided to undertake the silence in aid of the recent Philippines disaster.

“I think she saw the news coverage and was quite upset,” said mum Lucy Bullon.

“She said ‘I am going to do a sponsored silence.’ But she is never quiet!”

The Year 6 pupil at St Richard’s Catholic School spent two days in silence, and managed to raised £102.80, which went to the lions club’s Philippines appeal.

She raised the money at school and by calling on neighbours’ houses to help increase the amount raised.

A spokeswoman at St Richard’s school said: “We’re delighted that Holly did so well with her sponsored silence.

“Our school has a high percentage of children whose families are from the Philippines and so we wanted to help in a small way.

“To date our children have raised £665.71, not including Holly’s £102.80.”

Richard Hall from the Chichester Lions Club said: “We are delighted with her offer to come through us.

“Keeping quiet for two days at school is incredible considering what a chatterbox she is.

“I think she did very, very well to go ahead and do that off her own back.”

The money will go towards the £1,500 already raised by the Lions Club for the Philippines appeal
