THE lights will be out at Chichester District Council’s headquarters on Thursday, August 4, between 10pm and 11pm, to mark the hour that Britain entered the first world war, 100 years ago.

The council will be joining thousands of other organisations in the UK which will switch off their lights for an hour as a mark of respect, as part of the national ‘Lights Out’ event.

At 11pm on August 4, 1914, Britain declared war on Germany, ushering in one of the darkest periods in our history.
