YOUNG readers from Chichester High School for Girls have scooped first and second prize in a literature competition.
Nine schools, comprising 28 teams from across the area, took part in the Inter Schools West Sussex Literature Quiz.
The high school entered four teams of Year 8 students, who won three rounds and went on to take first and second place.
The quiz was organised by Portsmouth Schools Library service and was held at The Venue, in Chichester, on Thursday, February 27.
Peter Bone, head of Portsmouth Library Service, said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere and the behaviour and enthusiasm was just terrific.”
He congratulated the winners on their ‘dominance’ of the first Chichester quiz and said they were ‘genuinely outstanding’ and a ‘credit’ to the school.
The event was also attended by four authors, Ali Sparkes, Tom Easton, Miriam Halahmy and Andrew Norris, who awarded the prizes and whose books many of the questions were based on.
The pupils on the winning team were Emma Watson, Lauren Farndell, Charesse Armatey and Nisha Tharmalrajah.
