BRITISH astronaut and former Chichester High School pupil major Tim Peake is set to celebrate the biggest annual astronomy event in the UK.

Major Tim, whose family lives
in Westbourne, will be taking part in the National Astronomy Meeting at the University of Portsmouth.

However he will be video-calling from Russia, where he is currently in training for his trip to the International Space Station
next year.

Major Tim, who is Portsmouth alumnus, will be calling into the first public event, called Launchpad to the Stars.

He is expected to talk about his mission and will take questions from the audience.

The event is free and takes
place at Portsmouth Guildhall at 6.45pm on Monday, June 23.

Major Tim will blast off on his trip in November 2015.

The NAM2014 programme is being organised by the University of Portsmouth’s institute of cosmology and gravitation in partnership with Portsmouth Festivities.
