Chichester swap event goes well

A CHICHESTER swap shop proved to be tip-top for residents, who left the Newell Centre with a few treasured gems in exchange for their unwanted goods.

The event, hosted by Transition Chichester, is aimed at encouraging residents to swap clothes, books, music and other household items, without spending any money.

More than 200 people came and went to take items of their fancy. It is the fourth time Transition Chichester has held the event.

Sue Gilson of Transition Chichester said the swap sessions were getting busier as more and more people were finding out about them.

She said: “It’s a really happy atmosphere here, there is no money exchanging hands.

“One’s person’s rubbish is another’s treasure. Everyone goes away happy.

“This has become a really popular feature on the Chichester calendar.”

Mrs Gilson said the swap shops went a long way towards keeping items out of landfill sites, which had become a serious problem.

There was also a Fairtrade Cafe at the event, where people could buy tea, coffee, cake and soup, all made by volunteers.
