Council staff aid flood victims

Chichester District Council has assisted in the multi-agency operation following the flooding at West Sands Caravan Park, Selsey, yesterday (March 10).

Housing officers from the District Council arranged for temporary accommodation to be made available for a small number of people who lived on the caravan park, while the holidaymakers at the site were advised by emergency services to return home.

A number of staff also opened an emergency rest centre at Selsey Town Hall as a precaution in case further homes were flooded during the overnight high tide, but residents chose to remain in their homes.

Sandbags were put out by district council staff to protect electricity substations to prevent a loss of power because of further flooding.

District council staff continue to monitor the situation, in conjunction with colleagues from other agencies.

Flood warnings and flood watches remain in place for both coastal and inland waters in the Chichester District, and residents are advised to call the Environment Agency's Floodline number on 0845 988 1188 if they have any concerns.
